2Stavropol

Destinations

We've grouped destinations by how much time they take: the city in a day or two, walks in parks and forests, and full-day trips around the region. That makes it easier to build an itinerary that fits your schedule.

Selection criteria: the place is known beyond the city, it can be reached by public transport or on a tour, and information about it can be verified through official sources.

The city

Where to begin getting to know Stavropol, the region's administrative center.

Fortress Hill (Krepostnaya Gora)

The city's birthplace: a fortress was founded here in 1777. It's a convenient starting point for a walk around the center; look for Suvorov Street.

Where to start

For your first two days, pick Stavropol: the historic center with Fortress Hill, plus one day for parks or museums. Trying to see both the city and all four Mineral Waters spa towns in a weekend means spending most of your time on the road.

If you're going for the Caucasian Mineral Waters, choose one or two spa towns and don't try to cover them all in a day. The easiest way into the region is through Mineralnye Vody airport; check schedules with the carriers.

Editor's pick

For a first visit: a day in Stavropol's historic center, half a day in Taman Forest and a day in Pyatigorsk or Kislovodsk. How to build this itinerary →

Where to double-check

Museum hours, train and bus schedules, and opening times for parks and mineral water pump rooms change. Before your trip, check them on the official websites of the venues and carriers.
