Trip planning

The result: decisions made before you go, including when to travel, where to stay, what to book ahead and what to do if plans fall through. Check prices and schedules at the time you plan.

Before you start

  • Approximate dates and length of your trip
  • Your goal: the city, nature, the Mineral Waters spa towns, or a bit of everything
  • Who's traveling, and whether there are children or older travelers
  • Your accommodation budget for the chosen season

Steps

  1. Choose your season

The warmer months are best for walks in the forests, parks and spa towns. In the colder months, the focus shifts to museums and the theater.

If you want long walks in Kislovodsk's Resort Park or on the Taman Forest trails, go in the warm season.

  2. Choose your base

Stavropol works well for exploring the city; for a spa-focused stay, it's easier to base yourself in the Mineral Waters.

Flying into Mineralnye Vody airport makes sense if most of your trip is about the spa towns.

  3. Book what sells out

Accommodation during holidays and the spa high season, weekend train and plane tickets, and theater tickets.

    Check the free cancellation terms.

  4. Check your documents

Bring the documents you need for flights, travel and check-in. Foreign visitors should check current entry and visa rules on official sources. If you plan spa treatments, ask the facility in advance which documents they require.

Keep copies of your documents separate from the originals.

  5. Pack for the weather

Comfortable shoes for the hilly center and forest trails, a hat in summer and a rain jacket in any season.

Bring a water bottle for walks in the Mineral Waters parks.

  6. Check everything the day before

Museum hours, transport schedules and the weather forecast.

Save offline maps of central Stavropol and your spa town.

Problems and solutions

Rain all dayMuseums in the center, galleries and the theater instead of forest walks
You can't make it back from the Mineral WatersKnow the time of the last service and keep an overnight option in reserve
Worn out from all the travelNo more than one spa town per day
Not sure which airport to chooseStavropol (STW) for the city, Mineralnye Vody (MRV) for the spa towns

Important

Don't buy tickets or spa "packages" from random sellers on messaging apps; use official ticket offices and websites. Drink mineral water with your health and your doctor's advice in mind. In an emergency, call 112.

Where to double-check

Museum hours, train and bus schedules, and opening times for parks and mineral water pump rooms change. Before your trip, check them on the official websites of the venues and carriers.
