Trip planning
Season, weather, bookings and documents: a prep checklist.
An independent guide to Stavropol and Stavropol Krai. This is not an official tourism portal; the former photo site on this domain has been discontinued, and its photos are not published here.
2Stavropol
The result is an itinerary that reflects how this trip works: the city center is compact, while trips around the region take a full day. We don't publish schedules; we give you a logic to fill in with verified information.
If you're mainly here for the city, stay in Stavropol. If the spa towns are your main goal, it's easier to base yourself in the Mineral Waters and visit Stavropol for a day.
Two days in the city and one in Pyatigorsk: base in Stavropol. A week at the spas: base in one of the Mineral Waters towns.
The site where the city was founded in 1777 is the natural starting point. From here, the route continues through the historic center.
Fortress Hill → Tiflis Gate → Yermolov Boulevard → regional history museum.
Don't plan more than one or two museums a day, or you'll be too tired to enjoy the second one.
Morning at the Regional Museum of Fine Arts, then a stroll along the boulevard in the afternoon.
Taman Forest, the Mamai Forest and Velyaminov Grove are walks that don't mix well with a packed schedule.
Morning in the forest, then Komsomolsky Pond or Victory Park after lunch.
Plan a whole day for each spa town: the round trip, parks and walks take longer than you'd expect.
Pyatigorsk: Mount Mashuk and the Lermontov House Museum. Kislovodsk: the Resort Park and the Narzan Gallery.
Museum and zoo hours, train and bus schedules, and the weather forecast.
Many museums have a closing day or a monthly maintenance day; check it against your itinerary.
Stops and the logic for moving between them, without schedules.
Fortress Hill, the Tiflis Gate, Kazan Cathedral, Yermolov Boulevard and the regional history museum.
The Regional Museum of Fine Arts, the P. M. Grechishkin Art Gallery or the V. I. Smirnov House Museum.
Taman Forest or the Mamai Forest, then Victory Park or Komsomolsky Pond.
For a 4–5 day trip.
Same as the first template.
A full day: Mount Mashuk, the Lermontov duel site and the Lermontov House Museum.
A full day: the Resort Park and the Narzan Gallery; add Essentuki or Zheleznovodsk if you still have the time and energy.
On forest trails, stick to marked paths, tell someone your route and get back before dark. Near ponds and reservoirs, stay away from the edge in bad weather.
Museum hours, train and bus schedules, and opening times for parks and mineral water pump rooms change. Before your trip, check them on the official websites of the venues and carriers.
